Rating the "All-Time" Faves . . .

I've been reminiscing about a few favorite artists of mine, and below is the history and my personal take on their albums.

The Madonna InitiationSince I was a wee little girl, I've been listening to Madonna, collecting her studio releases, etc. I think it was "Material Girl" that first drew me in. I could've sworn at the time she wasn't saying " ( Read more... )

Not so soft and Ani Difranco are the albums I listen to , the least. Mainly because I can hear all those songs, newer versions, or live which i like better. But, when Im in a quiet mood, I put those on.

I completely disagree with your view on SMS SML ;) I love love love this album. I may even like it better than Living in Clip. Maybe because I've heard LIC so many times, but they both rock.

Knuckle down is awesome, but there are only a few songs I really love. I dont like Knuckle down or lag time too much. Manhole sounds way over produced. From this album, Sunday Morning, Seeing Eye Dog, Callous, Recoil, Parameters and Paradigm are my favorites. I really do love the sound of the album though.

I agree with you about R&R. Its the one I listen to the least but it definitely is good for certain moods. Well, each cd is different, but ya know.

All in All, all her albums kick ass, and she has the best collection out of anyone ive ever heard in my life.

me love her.

Thanks for coming over here and commenting.

You know, sometimes the appeal of Ani is listening to the albums right when they come out and you can share the experience with other Ani fans. Well, I didn't get SMS, SML until like six months after it was out. So, maybe that has something to do with it. Not sure. Maybe I should listen to it more. I do like that "Self Evident" is on it, and I think I prefer the "Welcome to" version live more :)

Hey, your boyfriend/s seem pretty cool if they liked Ani on their own. Every guy I've dated, I've had to try to convert. hehe.

Maybe you need to give Knuckledown a longer time to digest. That's the way I felt about Reckoning.

And, I totally agree with you about Ani having guts. To some degree, I think she's the gutsiest of these three . . . mostly because she doesn't hide behind metaphors--she tells you straight up!

Thanks for your comments! It means a lot that you took the time to stop by and read :)

Hello fellow "Tormadani" fan :) I agree with much of what you said. But for Tori, I must say that Boys for Pele is my favorite album. There's just so much good stuff on it. I didn't like the short song "Way Down" at first, probably because it's so slow, but now I love it and I just think it is absolutely beautiful. And "Blood Roses" is amazing and so emotional (but I'm still having a hard time understanding it) I enjoy Little Earthquakes, but my favorites on that album are "Silent all These Years" because it's so overwhelmingly passionate and "Me and a Gun" because it's so raw and right in my face. Although Scarlet's Walk isn't my favorite, "A Sorta Fairytale" is my absolute favorite Tori Song. I won't elaborate on Madonna(although I love her as well), but I will say that "Like a Prayer" has such a wonderful and sensitive beginning that I love putting on repeat ;) I think that, "Shanti" and "Power of Goodbye" are my absolute favorite Madonna songs. I think her most emotional album is "Ray of Light". Now onto Ani, and I'll ( ... )

Well, for the most part, I too listen to the way a song sounds first. If it doesn't catch me right away, I have a tendency to skip to another track. But as a poet, I have a high respect for songwriters, just as much as singers/musicians.

Oh yeah, I just remembered I wanted to say this: On Revelling, what's up with the song "What How When Where" song....I personally think it's simply the oddest Ani song ever.

I'm glad you read this :) I love music, even tho I can't play anything . . . and I majored in English. *shrug* I absorb music as literature than I do of "actual" literature. *L*

Music is my life, next to food, sex, and sleep. If I didn't have music, I think I would be sooo bored!

Oh yeah, I sort of agree about Not a Pretty Girl. It used to be my favorite of her albums but then when I heard more other stuff... it just sort of dropped back. I do think it's an incredible album but I wouldn't call it my favorite anymore. Though, the song Not a Pretty Girl is my all-time favorite SONG.

i just wanted to add, that Upx6 is brilliant. I know many ani fans who say its their least favorite, but the cd in whole is just so beautiful, and trickle down... i could listen to that for hours on end..

*sigh*
