OOC: Putting together a primer

Oct 03, 2005 14:36

I brought this over here because this is more Cam-centric and I didn't want a debate on my other LJ.

Topic of conversation:

"If an RST was putting together a primer on how to get involved in plot and steal the keys to the plot bus, what suggestions would you make for it?"

Go.

Do your down times. This doesn't mean you need to game 24/7, but give your ST something to work with when you submit a down time report. If they want to give you direct hooks, downtime is a great place for that. Submit your downtime as soon after the game as possible to give you and your ST enough time to trade some e-mails -- this is especially true if you don't have a lot of time to spend on game stuff during the week.

1. Write backgrounds
2. Do your DTRs
3. Make your own plot, make your own connections.

From the ST side, I would like to hear a little about the vision of the STs. Perhaps a simple understanding of what the STs are doing OVERALL might help me understand the plots.

Why we do, what we do.

Things I'd like to see kao_ni_ki October 3 2005, 19:54:00 UTC
One thing I'd like to see is advice on how to handle what happens when some other player refuses to let you get involved.

Another is how to handle players trying to involve others in plots that they shouldn't touch due to COI.

Don't overlook the obvious. Hvaing super cool supernatural powers is great but sometimes they do diddly squat when it comes to helping you catch the plotbus. When supercool tricks don't help then go back to the basics, think to yourself "What would they do on *insert name of dectective show* and get creative. Fingerprints, footprints, trace evidence, all of it can lead you unto the plotbus.

Use NPC leverage for plot-hooks pawel_stracony October 3 2005, 20:33:58 UTC
Merits like Contacts, Allies, Mentor, and Retainers can all create plausible avenues for connecting a player character with plot. Flesh out your connection and make the STs aware of who these new NPC sources are. Just

Further more, there are plenty of Disciplines that can generate information out there: Auspex, Obfuscate, Dominate, Animalism, and Majesty are the most obvious. Every clan has at least one supernatural means to gain information outside the box through the activities of others.

No one says you have to stick to a single set of eyes and ears to obtain plot.

And don't be afraid of "sinking" yourself either. Sometimes you don't find plot, but instead the plot finds you.
