Can anyone tell that I have nothing to say, yet an irresistible urge to post something?
For no reason other than boredom and me trawling the archives. My cheap-arse Christmas present to friends last year, the first time we all met up after our first few months at university.
going away to college | an "i'll see you soon, maybe" mix
»
mediafire «
21 tracks | mp3 | 01:20:15 | 89.31mb
willy wonka | the wondrous boat ride
there's no earthly way of knowing
which direction we are going.
blink 182 | going away to college
don't forget to
think about me, and i
won't forget you
"i'll write you once a week," she said.
the proclaimers | i'm gonna be (500 miles)
but i would walk 500 miles
and i would walk 500 more.
oasis | half the world away
i would like to leave this city
this old town don't smell too pretty and
i can feel the warning signs
running around my mind.
a cappella | when i come around
no time to search the world around
'cause you know where I'll be found.
dar williams | iowa (traveling iii)
and so for you
i came this far across the tracks
ten miles above the limit
and with no seatbelt
and i'd do it again.
the beatles | she's leaving home
she goes downstairs to the kitchen
clutching her hankerchief
quietly turning the backdoor key
stepping outside she is free.
bob dylan | if you see her, say hello
sundown, yellow moon, i replay the past
i know every scene by heart, they all went by so fast
if she's passin' back this way, i'm not that hard to find
tell her she can look me up if she's got the time.
ray charles | hit the road jack
and don't you come back no more, no more, no more, no more.
arctic monkeys | choo choo
she's setting off from platform four
make your way down
we'll shut the door bout quart to five.
kaiser chiefs | oh my god
(drifting apart like a plate tectonic)
oh my god I can't believe it
i've never been this far away from home.
pixies | hey
hey! been trying to meet you.
rilo kiley | with arms outstretched
now some days, they last longer than others
but this day by the lake went too fast.
cartman | come sail away
i look to the sea
reflections in the waves spark my memory
some happy, some sad
i think of childhood friends
and the dreams we had.
ben lee | float on (live)
and we'll all float on okay
and we'll all float on okay
and we'll all float on okay
and we'll all float on.
rufus wainwright | across the universe
thoughts meander like a restless wind inside a letter box they
tumble blindly as they make their way
across the universe
(nothing's gonna change my world.)
the beatles | hello goodbye
i don't know why you say goodbye, i say hello
the simpsons | when the saints go over there
yeah! that’s more like it!
van morrison | bright side of the road
and into this life we're born
baby, sometimes we don't know why
and it goes by so, oh so fast
it's like the twinkling of an eye.
talking heads | road to nowhere
well, we know where we're going
but we don't know where we've been
and we know what we're knowing
but we can't say what we've seen
and we're not little children
and we know what we want
and the future is certain
give us time to work it out.
death cab for cutie | transatlanticism
the distance is quite simply much too far for me to row
it seems farther than ever before
oh no
i need you so much closer.
This mix ended up being too many things (emotionally - mismatched, too sentimental, rationally untruthful; thematically - thin) because of time constraints, the number of different musical tastes I had to cater for (five/six friends), my desire to put some things I loved in there, and how it was strangely difficult to fill up one CD with either "university/leaving home" songs OR "travelling/distance" songs, so it becomes a mix of both with some tracks just about stretching whatever theme there may be.
Nothing too original or surprising in the content. I suspect people will have the majority of songs already. A little indie, folky, comedy, and some classics.
