Just writing something

May 26, 2015 17:02

I'm having a really hard time starting this entry, because I'm not sure what to write about. But the best way to write something anyway is to write something anyway, so here I am. Kodansha posted to Facebook today with their new releases, and nothing we translated made the cut so we were sad. But we checked Anime News Network's release list for ( Read more... )

Actually, Brandon and Brenda in "Beverly Hills 90210" were supposed to be fraternal twins, although this mostly seemed to be used as an excuse for them to both be in the same year in high school. (This series notoriously stretched out the characters' tenure at West Beverly Hills High School by having one of the guys wake up at the beginning of season four and say something like, "Wow, I dreamed that we all had our junior year last year instead of starting it today!") The whole "orbiting around each other" thing never came up at all on that show, as far as I recall. Both twins had strong personalities and were difficult to push around. Although I suppose some people might argue that the fact that Brenda was more apt to prioritize popularity over studying, and to occasionally do irresponsible things like running off to Mexico for the weekend with her boyfriend when she didn't even have a passport (somehow she didn't think she'd need one to get back into the U.S.), was a reaction against Brandon's usually more conscientious and upright ( ... )

Thanks for the suggestions! We'll keep those on the list! We actually started watching Food Wars, but the depictions of tasting food were a little too graphic...and there was only one of our favorite voice actors, so we let ourselves get distracted and stopped watching.

Yeah, the orgasmic reactions to the food are a bit much even in the manga. (I haven't seen the anime.) I can only imagine how weird it must be to see and hear those sequences animated.

For manga: available in English so you probably read most of them
- Arisa by Natsumi Ando (Arisa and Tsubasa)
- Cipher by Minako Narita (the twins pretended to be one person)
- Fushigi Yugi and Fushigi Yugi: Genbu Kaiden by Yuu Watase
- Bride's story by Kaoru Mori - there are a few chapters in volumes 4 and 5 when they are main characters.
- The Twin Knights by Osamu Tezuka

available in japanese and french
- Liselotte to Majo no Mori by Natsuki Takaya
- Love So Life by Kaede Kouchi - the 2 kids are twins.

Young adult fictions: maybe you've read some of these?
- Charlie Bones series by Jenny Nimmo - fantasy, Idith and Inez Branko. I can't remember which book they are in unfortunately.
- Ulysses Moore series by Pierdomenico Baccalario - the main characters are twins (a boy and a girl)
- Anne of Avonlea by Lucy Maud Montgomery, Davey and Dora Keith, adopted by Marilla

Hope they help.

Thanks for the suggestions! We actually have only read Fushigi Yuugi and Liselotte--if a manga's available in English and we don't translate it, chances are we haven't read it (unless it's the basis of an anime we really like). Anyway, we're adding them to the list! You wouldn't happen to have any TV show recommendations, would you?

I haven't watched TV for a long time.
- I like The Parent Trap, both version 1961 with Hayley Mills and 1998 with Lindsay Lohan - it may be interesting to compare how times changed and how characters are portrayed.
- Does Chip n' Dale Rescue Rangers count?
- Alice in Wonderland - Tweedledum and Tweedledee.

I just remember a couple more manga:
- Papillon by Miwa UEDA - unfornately - only 6 volumes were published by Del Rey - complete in Japanese with 8 volumes in total.
- So Cute It Hurts!! by Go IKEYAMADA. volume 1 comes out next week.
- Mint na Bokura by Wataru YOSHIZUMI, I read it in French, I'm not sure about the availability of the Japanese tankobon. It's a fun read - since the brother crossed-dressed.

Oh of course, the Parent Trap! That's already on the list of things to watch, but only the original. I guess it wouldn't hurt us to see the remake...

Thanks for the other recs!
