The macbook is really easy to use. I still hit the wrong key combos sometimes but the transition has felt pretty natural. Like, PC is still my first language but I am becoming fluent in macspeak.
I always feel like I must not be getting something that everyone else gets, because as someone raised by a guy whose trademarked parenting phrase was "when I say 'jump' you ask why on the way down," I always respond to the question of "John Winchester: drill sergeant or good father?" with "Both! Yay!"
Which is apparently not the answer that most of the fandom is looking for. But oh well. *hugs John*
I like this line of reasoning for why John stayed away from the boys for so long. At the end of S1, I still felt like his motivation hadn't really been satisfactorily explained, and by the end of S2, I'd kind of forgotten all about it, so never put these pieces together.
John is both. I enjoy discussing him but find the debate, good father or bad father, somewhat moot by now, because he made mistakes and there are times when I am mad at him; and he also did good things, and he did things out of love, I think.
It's almost sort of cheating on the show's part to have John's motivations only make sense after information we get a season later. But having the full picture of the YED and his plans for Sam, I'm looking afresh at season one and think John's decisions were all about keeping the YED away from Sam. (All the more so because maybe John had some idea that Sam could turn into something else, and John didn't want to have to make that decision...)
Yay shiny macbook! I'm extremely glad you're enjoying it (I'm also extremely jealous, atm, but we'll pretend I'm a better person than that, yeah?).
Also, I hadn't ever thought about John that way before, but it's maybe the most logical motivation. It certainly puts his actions in Faith in a slightly different light; that was always the thing that I couldn't get past. At least with this reasoning, I feel for John, too, because staying away from one dying son to try protecting the other would have torn him up.
It is shiny and cooperative and I like how easy it is to get to everything. It is also small and light. Uh, wait, I mean, oh well, it's no big deal, it's just a computer like any other computer and you shouldn't be jealous at all
( ... )
I really do hope Kripke sticks to his 5 year plan. It would be too painful to reach the point of SPN being on, but feeling unable to stand to watch it. I probably will keep watching it no matter how faded it gets, growing more and more cranky, so it's more pleasant for me if it ends when it's still strong.
*looks around* Yes. Someone should do that.
I love the learning to work together thing, and the slow reveal of Sam as a badass and Dean pretending to be all, no, I wasn't worried about you. Ha, yes, every season seems like it's rough on them and then the show goes and does something even worse. Which makes me kind of nervous about season 4. *hides under the covers*
Heard the spoilers! Made a squee noise out loud! \o/
