I am similarly zen about the plot. I mean, there are bits that I would like to make more sense, but in a show that's going to unfold over 5 years, I'm willing to wait and see. And mostly, they are good with the characterisation, which, at least for this show, I care far more about. It's why I like your John theory. I can definitely see that about Faith now. And it's kind of a double hit--1. If he loses Dean, he can't lose Sam, too, and definitely can't be the one to do it, and 2. if Dean lives, there's no way he could deal with being the reason anything happened to Sam. It really does make a lot more sense now.
I think someone--I'm not looking at you, or anything--should write a ficlet from his POV. *nod*
I love them in Season 1. I really, really do. Especially watching again and seeing them rediscover how to work together, and Sam finding out how much more there is to Dean. Though remember when we thought they had problems then? It frightens me how every season I assume it's bad, and then Kripke is all, "Ha! Bad? I'll show you bad."
Unrelatedly, have you seen the new Doctor Who spoilers? I think they will make you happy.
I really do hope Kripke sticks to his 5 year plan. It would be too painful to reach the point of SPN being on, but feeling unable to stand to watch it. I probably will keep watching it no matter how faded it gets, growing more and more cranky, so it's more pleasant for me if it ends when it's still strong.

I love the learning to work together thing, and the slow reveal of Sam as a badass and Dean pretending to be all, no, I wasn't worried about you. Ha, yes, every season seems like it's rough on them and then the show goes and does something even worse. Which makes me kind of nervous about season 4. *hides under the covers*
