The level of suspicion in her response to me certainly gave me a case of the oO

Yes, that and her past form. Unless I'm misremembering, ISTR a certain amount if stubborn dickishness from her in previous comments?

I am too lazy/busy to check the memories. It would be great fun if someone else did, though...

Apparently, she feels justified in giving her opinion about the whole abortion/adoption debate too! I guess she really knows best.

Also: boggle at her boggling over the idea that a person who choses to be childfree can also enjoy spending time with children. How can this beee?????

Another stellar example of the variable meaning of "childfree". If you challenge anyone directly on it, they usually claim that oh no, it doesn't mean they have anything against parents or kids, it's in no way equivalent to being racist or homophobic or any other instance of hating large sectors of the population based on various demographic characteristics, it just means they personally choose not to have kids.

But in practice, it seems like anyone who identifies as childfree but really doesn't hate kids, and actually voluntarily associates with other people's kids once in a while, is regarded as letting down the team.

To me, it all looks kind of like the "Oh, of course I have nothing against [insert ethnic group here] - but I wouldn't want my [insert relative here] to marry one!"

My favorite part is the:

I don't think my boyfriend should be with anyone else, because he can't manage two girlfriends when I am so high maintenance, demanding, and jealous, but I get to have two or more boyfriends, because I only date people who are easy to get along with and don't make unreasonable demands of me.

It's a bad situation that she should have been able to avoid.

That "should" contains WORLDS of judgment. Ugh.

You can avoid it by removing all sexual organs. Y'know. Just to be thorough?

That comment made me figuratively swallow my gum. Really?

She doesn't get to decide what some other woman does with her uterus right now, much less judge what she did in the past.

I so wanted to point this out in clear bold terms but was again foiled by the "closed" sign on the community.
