Because we all know poly relationships are never abusive

Twue Poly Relationships, that is.

No words for how stupid and dangerous this attitude is.

EDIT: O dere lord. Apparently they accept the possibility of abuse - where Mormons are involved. Is it time for the religious snark yet?

EDIT2: "Progress Prevails"?? WTF? Are we in 'V For Vendetta' ( Read more... )

Dude, it had to happen - hence my title.

Fist-punch?

Yeah, that's some terrifying self-delusion going on there, isn't it?

I was about to write something similar when I made my kid lunch.

People who choose to engage in poly relationship dynamics couldn't possibly be abusive. Or "stick around" for abuse. Because people who are poly can't feel the kind of deep shame that comes from being abused, the stigma that comes with saying "I was abused".

Attitudes like theirs piss me off so fucking much. They contribute to people feeling like they can't leave abusive relationships, and the feeling that no one will believe them if they say out loud they are being abused.

Oh yeah. I did try to start a discussion on the problem of how poly communities deal with various forms of "bad" behaviour in their midst, back in 2008 I think, but inevitably it got derailed.

For the record, I think attitudes like the OPs are a very serious problem. I've met my share of creepy fuckers in poly communities, like everyone else. cinema_babe had a good snark on this a couple of months back. "True Poly People" are not an insurance against abuse of any kind, or creepy/entitled behaviour generally. They are not automatically free form sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism or class prejudice (especially not the last one). Poly people can be jerks, just like everyone else. Amazing ( ... )

Hehe, I had typed out my reply to their post before I thought better of it and wrote something different. I REALLY wanted to say 'Here is the post in which I will be banned. It's worth it. Fuck you you fucking fuck'.

I think at least 100 on the danger front!

(BTw, I always giggle when I get a response from you, for your LXG-referencing handle. Ah, Mina!)

Oh for fuck's sake. I quit the community back in Wanktember so I can't comment there, but yeah, what the fuck. I've totally been in an abusive poly relationship. First one I was ever in, as a matter of fact. I didn't get the physical abuse the others in the house got, but there was plenty of mental fuckery going on. It doesn't take an "evolved" person (excuse me while I throw up in my mouth) to collect partners and metamours just so they can shit all over them.

Hehehe, thanks. I can't even remember what month that was now; I had started with Wanktober but I was thinking that the comm went to shit a bit earlier than that.

Arguably, it'd been going to shit for at least a couple of years, but same diff.

In a perfect world the person who posted that would have been right, and people would be able to use the security and support of the other people they were involved with to get out before things got really bad.

Of course, in that same perfect world there wouldn't be any abusive mono relationships either...
