Just so everyone knows, the pit bull breeder who alpha rolls boxes? Most of his dogs were taken away. He killed one of them by keeping it in his garage for 10 hours with no ventalation and it overheated (I posted it in stupidpetowners, I was too pissed off to snark when it was posted. Right now, I'm too lazy to link it)
Anyways, animal control was ( Read more... )

NOOOOOOO I have inadvertently condemned 2 other chihuahuas to death by adopting my non-socialized one and the pee-marking one!!!!

I can sometimes see how this argument would work. For example - imagine you have a busy, high volume shelter and a choice of two dogs to put down today. Dog A is well socialized, behaves great, loves cats, kids, guinea pigs, other dogs, and all people in general. Dog B is extremely dog aggressive, not to be trusted with children or other people, gives everyone "the eye" when they go by and etc. When space, money, staff, and safety are an issue like that, you'd most likely choose dog A. Just like you'd pick the adorable little adopteable puppy over the 7 year old shepherd mix. Or the healthy dog over the one with *terrible* hips.

This doesn't work in your situation, however. You're not the person saying "Who gets to live" every day. You got a dog who suited you - one who you were capable of working with and one who you have made into a great pet. That's your right. Some people are capable of working with dogs others would label as too much trouble. Obviously, you're one of those people. Your coworker has no right to berate you for

I can see how that works too. In fact, I can repeat everything you just said and say that I agree with it, because it's basicly how I feel about the situation :P (I almost actually did this...then I noticed what I was doing and thought,"Man, I'm tired.")

The point is, I am not an animal shelter, and no animals in the shelter *deserve* to die. Taking in a super friendly dog with no health or temperment problems is just as honorable as taking in an abused, unhealthy animal that no one else wants. I also found it interesting that both her poodles came from breeders...no offense to people who buy dogs from breeders, but it sure does a hell of a lot less good for shelters then those of us who adopt trouble dogs.

hehe, wow. Did you point that out about the poodles? What a jerk.

Btw, I LOVE your tortie kitty. We have one now - Honey, our foster mom. She's somewhere in this icon. My roommate's keeping her now :)

Awsome:)Tortie kitties are so very pretty :D Penny says thanks.

I didn't mention the poodles because I was so shocked at how openly rude she had just been. I'm standing there, talking about how much I love my dog, and she starts talking about how I should have justnot bothered....very strange.

The Society to Prevent Cruelty to Boxes will be on his case next.
