Bloolark, I need your advice on this one...

So today, I went home for mother's day. My stepsister and her husband are out of town, so my mom is pet-sitting. They have a chocolate lab (lives outside in a cage...ugh. it gets WAY worse), a kitty (who is chunky, but otherwise very well cared for), two large aquariums of fishies (something they actually do RIGHT - the aquariums are in great shape ( Read more... )

How could your mom possibly think that calling animal control is the wrong thing to do?!?!?! It's a MACAW for fuck's sake! Of all the animals that should NOT live outside, a macaw just might top the list.

Please keep us informed about what happens. If they don't give you the bird I would call animal control ASAP.

Wow, that was unusual. I don't think I've gotten a special for me thing here. :)

Parrots can usually tolerate some surprisingly cold temperatures if they're acclimated to being outside. Obviously, this one isn't.

It sounds like the absolute best thing that you can do is get the parrot. Where are you located, roughly? I can point you to a rescue without any issue. Otherwise, you can try calling animal control, but if they're occasionally slack with dogs and cats, they're downright awful with 'exotics' in most cases, unless you're just lucky.

If you can't get the bird from them, calling AC is better than doing nothing, but a rescue is your best bets. Tell me where they are, roughly, and I'll point you in the right direction -- the rescue also might have some tips on what you should do here.

Phoenix Landing is probably your best bet -- http://www.phoenixlanding.org/adoption.htm

One of my friends volunteers with them and has adopted from them, and they seem a very reptutable organization.

Oh, my DREAM is to get a blue and gold, this makes me SO mad. I've had smaller birds, cockatiels and such, but I've always wanted a Blue and gold or a scarlet. How can anyone treat any animal like that, let alone a bird of that magnitude? I'd take him in in a heartbeat, poor baby. I'd call animal control too, or maybe the bird would just "disappear" one night, someone "stole" him, bad luck for keeping him outside. Ugh, people like that sicken me. I hope the bird does find a great home...
