Title: Building a House The Anole Chronicles part 16: Rift
Fandom: Marvel
Table/Prompt: Table 8/4. Prince
Rating: PG
Word Count: 400
Summary: There’s a rift growing between Their Highnesses, and Victor’s caught in the middle.

Victor followed William at a discrete distance, eyes sweeping the room, hunting for any threats to the prince. He saw the emperor coming from a ways off, Kl’rt following behind him much the same way Victor was doing for William. The Skrull caught the young mutant’s eye and jerked his head ever so slightly to one side. Victor let himself fall back while the emperor walked past him, catching up with William. The two bodyguards fell into step, still close enough to be doing their jobs while allowing their charge the illusion of privacy.

“This is becoming ridiculous,” Kl’rt put forth.

“He’s lucky William didn’t zap him for that stunt,” Victor replied. He didn’t point out that the Emperor was lucky Victor hadn’t shot him; that hardly seemed like a good idea.

“He’s the emperor,” Kl’rt chided, his tone cool.

“I don’t think that argument holds much water with my prince.”

They both watched the Emperor and his consort. Both were being stuff and overly formal, which did not bode well for a reconciliation in the near future.

Hisako and Jonothon had both been subtly encouraging the prince to return to Earth for what they called a vacation. Victor wasn’t sure about that plan; God only knew what Princess Wanda would do if she got involved.

William pulled back from Dorrek, marching away at speed. Victor tamped down on the urge to sigh and hurried to catch up.

“I should apologize,” Dorrek said. He saw an expression flash across Kl’rt’s face. “Yes, I know, Emperors don’t apologize. He seems to think otherwise.”

“Hn.”

“I should have sent you to Victor’s room.”

“Yes, that would have solved the problem perfectly. And I would have been shot.”

“Keller.”

Julian straightened up as Prince William studied him. “Yes, Highness?”

“Get a ship ready. I think I have an idea, loathe as I am to do it.” He steepled his fingers, glaring at nothing in particular and pursing his lips. “Only one person is going,” he added, a slightly petulant tone creeping in to his voice. He never noticed Julian’s slow growing grin.

“Yes, sir,” the guardsman said, already making plans of his own.
