Byron Xanathos reached down, locking his fingers around Rowena’s ankle and pulling her foot on to his lap. She looked at him over the edge of her book., and he smiled back innocently, running his nails lightly around her instep. She wriggled her toes, and Byron made a slightly smug little noise. He slid his fingers between her toes, then traced the ball of her foot. “What are you doing?” Rowena asked. “Not that I want you to stop,” she added.
Byron laughed, rubbing circles on the sole of her foot. “I’m giving you a foot rub, obviously.” He ran his thumb down the side of her foot. “You have lovely feet.”
“I do not, you’re just trying to flatter me,” Rowena accused.
“Only a little,” Byron admitted. “Is it working?” He massaged his way up and down her foot, watching as she melted in to the couch.
“Depends on what you want,” Rowena sighed. She eyed him warily, leaving her book open on her chest.
“Marry me.”
“No, Byron.”
“Why not?”
Rowena tried, and utterly failed, to tug her foot away. “Because you are a fool, and you would regret it.”
“Would not,” Byron protested.
