The few times they pulled Nico out of her cell, the light was blinding and the noise was almost deafening. But it was so much better than the too quiet cell with its antiseptic stench and total lack of light.
They wanted to know where Tommy was. She didn't know, and she told them, but they didn't believe her. So they put her back in the dark, silent cell and left her there and left her there, with only the dark and the quiet and whatever the hell they gave her that made her head feel like it was stuffed full of wool.
Then came the glorious explosion of noise and light, and a pair of arms wrapped around her and held her tightly. She felt a face bury itself in her hair. "Nicky? Baby?" Tommy whispered, his breath moving across the skin of her cheek. "What did those bastards do? Oh God I'm so sorry."
Nico drank in every detail, every sight, every sound, every scent. He smelled so good, like vanilla cookies and sweat. His hands explored her body, checking for injuries.
Tommy was possibly one of the most beautiful things Nico had ever seen. She kissed him, reveling in the taste of him as she nearly wept with relief.
