The creature grabbed Megan by the neck and tossed her casually aside before reaching for Nezhno, it’s jaws gaping wide as it’s fetid breath washed over it’s vulnerable, helpless prey. With a shrill shriek (not unlike a kettle coming to boil), Megan launched herself back across the room like a pink rocket, soul dagger in hand. “I won’t let you hurt Nezhno!” she roared (in as much as Megan could roar), going at the thing she had accidentally conjured up like a woman possessed. “I’ve worked too hard to save him, and I will not let you ruin that!”
That was the moment when Nezhno decided that maybe he did want to live after all. If Megan could fight so hard for his ongoing existence… maybe he should, too.
He would have liked to fight in his own defense, but he couldn’t seem to muster the strength to raise his head. All he could do was watch Megan fight for both their lives with the kind of furor one usually only saw in mother bears protecting their cubs.
It was a little embarrassing, to be honest.
“Megan-”
“You just stay there!” Megan grunted. “I’ve got it all under control.”
