Julian looked Victor over, noting each and every bruise visible on his friend. Victor closed his eyes and waited for Julian’s ‘I told you so,’ which would be followed by a promise to start maiming his ex-boyfriend. Never mind that Victor had already done that himself.
Instead, he found himself enveloped in a careful hug.
“Julian?”
“Shh.” Julian rested his forehead on Victor’s shoulder. “Just be quiet, okay?”
“Alright.” Victor closed his eyes and tentatively reached up to stroke Julian’s hair. “It’s alright. I’m okay.”
Julian held him tighter and shuddered. “I can’t lose anyone else.”
