Brooklyn grabbed a handful of popcorn and tossed it into his mouth, swallowing it quickly. “So, explain this to me again…” he said, gesturing towards the TV.

Beth Maza rolled her eyes and sighed. “Dawn of the Dead is a social satire of the 80’s consumer culture. The zombies represent the near mindless masses that exist only to consume, producing nothing themselves. It’s a call to return to individualism and the pioneering spirit that made America great.”

“Okay, I guess that makes sense.” Brooklyn conceded, picking through the pile of DVDs in front of him. “And Day of the Dead?”

“Arms race and rampant militarism,” Beth said with a wave of her hand.

“Friday the 13th.”

“What else? Sex and drugs and youth gone wild. Everyone who dies in those movies does something ‘immoral’,” she sketched quotation marks in the air, “right before they get hacked into bloody chunks.”

“Jesus Christ, Vampire Hunter.”

“Sometimes a cheesy horror movie is just a cheesy horror movie.”
