You know what bothers me? It's fashion-related, and if you have ever spent more than FIVE SECONDS reading red-carpet commentary, you'll have seen it. What bothers me most is the patriarchal way it is often male assigning a specific aesthetic to women. I don't often watch these kinds of shows anymore for the reasons your post so brilliantly illustrated. I don't know how one can say, "OMFG it makes her look WIDE" and then placate with, "But there's nothing wrong with being larger." I just don't understand how a person can be this duplicitous with a straight face.

Don't get me started on how they virtually ignore bad fashion worn by men unless it's someone trying to cultivate their on style, which of course is categorically denounced.

Yeah. I wanted to get a bit more into how tied up in sexism as well as sizeism the whole thing is, but. I sort of banged this out in a hurry, as I had a math class to get to. I may do a followup, when my brain is feeling a bit more organized.

And good point on the men thing--fashion is all about criticizing women, unfortunately. Which again, relates to the sexism. I really should start gathering my thoughts for that followup.
