Of course, it would have to be Owen who’d finally overheard him.  Tosh would have smiled one of those smiles where her eyes glimmered and crinkled just a bit, but then sworn herself to secrecy.  Gwen might have giggled a bit and then teased him about it, in that gentle way of hers, for a week or two. Jack, well Ianto wasn’t really sure what Jack would have done, but it had to be better than this.

“You actually talk to them?”  Owen stood in the doorway, laughing.

“Owen,” Ianto started, quietly, but trailed off when he realized had nothing else to add.   Like most things, it has started innocently enough, but before he realized what was really happening he was in there four, five times a day and it was getting harder and harder to leave each time.

“You talk to them.  Don’t tell me you’ve named them, too?”  The look on Ianto’s face answered his question and then he’d had to grab onto the doorframe to prevent himself from pitching over from laughing so hard.

“They’re lonely.”

“You’re lonely.  They’re plants.”

“Studies have proven that-”

Owen stood up straight, reached into the hot house and grabbed Ianto.  “Studies have proven that when blokes are lonely enough to talk to plants they need their mates to take them out for a night of drinking.”

“But...”

“No buts.  Say goodnight to your little friends.”  Owen manhandled Ianto out of the room.  “You and me are hitting the pub.  You can tell them all about it in the morning.”
