Seriously, the volume of non-sequiturs made me feel like I must be dealing with a Chat-bot. I've finally gotten to the bottom of this. Comcast is ditching DOCSIS 1.0 support and forcing their customers to upgrade to at least DOCSIS 2.0, but eventually every user will be required to have DOCSIS 3.0 certified modems. Which is lame since my "Performance" internet package doesn't really need that. An engineer from Comcast messaged me on Reddit to tell me this. Worst company ever.
