asking for some advice ...

in my english comp class i'm thinking of having my final paper's thesis statement be "video games are do not hinder a student's educational development (or something like it)." i don't think that there are too many stats out on the video games and educational development/learning ability. i didn't know if anyone had any suggestions, tips, or ( Read more... )

ill sound all stats-ish, but you could compile your own data in a retrospective study- find high achieving students, low achieving students, and average students (based on grade averages, test scores, or a mix) and ask them whether or not they as a child played video games: never, somewhat (0-1 hr per week), often (1-4 hours per week), or a lot (over 4 hrs), and compile the data to see if there's an apparent relationship. I'm sure you could find, say, 150 people (50 from each achievement group) so that there are enough. the study would supplement whatever information you DO find online and that way you'd have enough to support your thesis(or possibly negate it, in which case u could change it to "video games DO hinder a student's development"). Maybe that'll help :)
