Considering how frequently the cloak features in such fics, I'd say you're right on the money.

The cloak gets around. It should be written as sapient at some point.

As to the fics, I am harbouring the hope that they can be rescued. I will have to find a trustworthy person to do it. Somehow, I can't think of many people I would like to go rummaging through my pornographical files.

For what it's worth, you might try opening the files on another computer, and keep trying until you find one that opens it. I had a similar problem with some files I created at my old job and tried to open on the computer at my new job.

Also, can you see the files? If so, perhaps you could save them to your drive and open from there?

You could always just reinstall the old disk, too, and save the files another way. Or have someone install it as a slave on their system, and copy the files.

All hope is not yet lost!! Good luck. I know it's traumatic.

Thanks a lot for your tips. I already tried to opent it on one other computer. I will continue trying.

I can see the files, but when I tried to save them, the programme was closed down. And they no longer exist on the old disk, because I didn't want to risk my baby brother opening my pornographical writings and getting scarred for life. He's read Harry Potter, he would regocnise the names, and so I chose to delete these files before he took the disk. That's why I am reluctant to have people sort it out for me; it is a somewhat delicate matter...

Exactly. And as I use working titles such as "SiriusSeverus Exotic" or "SnapeLupin Tied Up", it might lead to embarrassing questions. But I'm sure I will manage to open them somehow sometime.
