This assertion is false. You must solve a three by three matrix using methods from linear algebra to obtain the correct answer. I'm not surprised that an artsy man like Paul McCartney oversimplified what is essentially a chemistry problem. The thoughts of artsy people are whimsical and sometimes fun, but quite useless.
