Van Helsing

I had no idea this flick was by Stephen Sommers, who gave us stuff like The Mummy, because now I completely understand why it was so funny. However, unlike The Mummy, where the intended humor worked for the movie, it worked against it here. Plot? What plot? If Dracula's "Master Plan" was supposed to be a plot, then I have the wrong definition ( Read more... )

As soon as I heard "Gabriel" and "The Left Hand of God" come out of Dracula's mouth, the Van Helsing character made sense to me.

It was so wonderfully bad.

My friend I went with, was like.. 'you know, gabriel..like an angel of god'..Im not a totally religious person so I was still like, 'eh?'..but yeah, makes more sense now..

I'm not a HUGE fan of cheesy movies, my mom is..therefore she kinda liked it more than I. It wasn't the worst movie, but it wasnt like I loved it..somewhere there in between. I was surpised it wasn't cheesier than it was, cause I posted in your journal a while back and was thinking it was gonna be So cheesy..it was cheesy, but not like I was thinking.. I tend to over due things sometimes, but atleast that suprised me.

The story just ...lacked. But, oh well

I don't disagree there. But I laughed a lot. Even at stuff I wasn't supposed to be laughing at. XD

This was the movie I dragged my mom to see, because she had to be out of the house because of her surprise party. She tells me as we left the theatre, "That was actually a pretty good movie! I liked it!" My mom is so weird.

Dude, it's so bad. You're gonna dig it.

Oh, before the flick, they were running "Did You Know?" facts on the screen. They talked about Resident Evil 2. Did you know the reason they changed the title from Nemesis to Apocalypse was because of the title of the last Star Trek movie? I'm so excited for that shit, man. I'm definitely trying to get up there by the time that flick comes out. We have to see it together.

Another one of my LJ friends said that this movie is me. True or false?

Is YOU? I dunno. How did they say it? In what context? Other than the fact that Van Helsing worked for the Vatican, I dunno how so.

The implication was that I'm a crazy fanatic with Vatican ties. But in a good way. Which is basioally true, right? *g*

The scenery chewing on Roxburgh's part, I expected, simply because they cast him in the role. Still, some of his overacting was cringe-worthy. Then again, a lot of the B horror movie clunker lines had the same effect on me. The worst line in the whole movie had to be Kate Beckinsale's response to the wife when she said, "I'm going to kill you, what do you think of that?" "I think you should do instead of talking about it so much." ::wince:: Stevie, you couldn't come up with something wittier than that? You wrote The Mummy, for God's Sakes. At any rate, Roxburgh looked like he was having fun and I certainly don't begrudge any actor the satisfaction of enjoying his job.

I thought he was a bit more witty then most of the vampires they put on screen.

Do you mean in this particular movie or vampire movies in general?

Wasn't he grand?

He was so utterly love-worthy. I even found myself an icon of him because he was that fabulous.

In vampire movies in general, imho.

Hmm. I still prefer Alucard from Hellsing. ::pats icon:: XD
