This year it was harder for me to discover new music since I make most of those discoveries by surfing the 'Net. I did a lot of music hunting while I was at work and, in what may be another sign of my advancing oldness, much of the new music I liked this year was mellower than what I normally listen to. So many phone calls and e-mails flooded the city aldermans' offices that the ordinance will not be put up for a vote tomorrow! WhooHoo!! The ordinance is supposed to be rewritten before it comes up for a vote again, most likely next month. This Events Promoter Ordinance that's being fast-tracked through the City Council is bullshit. It's like it was designed to kill the local music scene, which are the only shows I can afford to go to at this point in time, but it would also discourage smaller venues that don't have 500+ permanent seating from booking some nationally-known indie ( Read more... )

I had a nice, low-key New Year's Eve at the robiwhos. She made some kickass butternut squash risotto and baked bread.
