Aljazeera has an interesting read on dominionism and it's manifestation in American politics. It pretty much lays it all out. [ link ]

Basically what we're looking at is an attempt by a cult of ego and secular apocalyptic-worshippers to gut democracy because it gets in their way...the problem being is they're so nut-ball insane no-one is taking them

Sounds very like the original Ku Klux Klan, authoritarian politics with a paramilitary edge, wrapped in Christianity carrying the flag.

Hmm yeah, there are parallels. Of course, this lot have a metric ship-load more money behind them, since they're acting as corporate stalking horse.

Scary as hell really... a hegemony of corporations bent on deregulating everything and introducing economic serfdom, with them as the king-makers backing an apocalyptic fundie end-times semi-secular cult bent on sweeping away democracy and establishing a theocratic state with them nominally in charge.

Al Jazeera's analysis is probably spot-on, but I'd like to see them do the same to the Islamic Caliphate extremists. Until they do, their motives are suspect.

Thanks for posting this - it's a very well-written article (and I don't find their motives suspect, personally). And you're right, even in the atheist community, people don't seem to either be willing to take this thing seriously, or simply remain blissfully ignorant of its reach and spread.....
