Between them, Elizabeth leading and Chas following with Todd in his arms, the trip back to her house is relatively quiet. She flicks the lights on and shows Chas the right bedroom to set her son down in. Her son, she thinks, and doesn't think about how it felt like a punch in the gut tonight when he called her Elizabeth. It's her name. It's what he ( Read more... )

Chas is, of course, incredibly careful not to wake the kid up on the way there. He's also extremely grateful that he'd sobered up quite a bit beforehand and was therefore capable of carrying Todd home. Dropping people's children is not a way to win friends.

Once the kiddo's in bed, he's at a bit of a loss, as well. And could honestly probably use another cup of coffee. Sleep, and the inevitable hangover, was not something he was exactly looking forward to. He grins a little, slyly. "Ain't nothin' fer free, senorita."

Yeah, uh, Chas would be facing Elizabeth's mighty wrath if he dropped her baby, FYI. But! Todd is safely tucked away and everyone can breathe a sigh of relief -- not least of all Elizabeth, who hadn't really thought about what she was going to do to get him home until it was actually time.

Quiet, because Todd and Claire are sleeping, she says, "The kitchen's this way," and leads him back downstairs.

The kitchen is a nice, polished affair; everything is new and gleaming, and Elizabeth's been keeping it as tidy as she can. Which isn't too hard, when she doesn't do a lot of cooking, what with failing really hard at it. The one unfortunate point in the image is the fact one of the tiles was smashed.

"How do you take it?"

Chas nods and follows, equally quiet. He can be stealthy when he puts his mind to it.

He takes a moment to glance around the kitchen. "Black." Well, not usually. But he had the feeling he needed the caffeine to knock out the remnants of that night's drinking fun.

Elizabeth gives him a briefly startled and almost skeptical look -- yeah, she can't imagine that's how he usually takes his coffee. "All right." That's how she takes hers, but she'd like to actually get some sleep at some point, so she's having tea, instead.
