D'aww. It gave me a happy to see this pop up on my friend's list.
Boyd's reveal at the end all happened so quickly and didn't receive much elaboration, so it still hasn't sunk in for me yet. I can definitely see the comparison prior to that - it was very much the same vibe. <3
After, however... no, not so much. Giles would never purposefully let harm come to Buffy, beyond her line of duty as the Slayer. Boyd was painfully extracting fluids from Echo's spine and ceased to seem concerned for Echo herself, only for the asset she represented. It was made of sad.

At first I refused to believe it, because the reveal actually destroyed the whole Echo/Boyd relationship I had adored, especially in the first season. I know she was imprinted to trust him and everything, but still, it felt authentic.
Once I saw I the Echo and Boyd relationship I immediately compared it to Buffy and Giles' relationship and went all smooshey inside because of his fatherly care towards Echo. I was really peeved and a little scared when his hidden agenda was revealed, and I was like: DAMN THE GENIUS OF JOSS WHENDON. Wait I take that back; except for when he kills good characters.
I'm a horrible Dollhouse fan because I still haven't seen the s2 finale, so I can't comment on that, but I immediately saw a connection between this two relationships and damn, Joss sure does know how to pull the heart-strings. I love both of the scenes you used SO MUCH.
