Summary: All grown up and on her own, Kagome experiences a sense of loneliness and confusion contrary to her nature. Her brother suggests she get a pet. Cue Sesshomaru.
A/N: Part one of three. :) My first entry in a while. Please enjoy!
To say that Kagome was lonely after leaving the shrine and moving to a small town would have been a vast understatement. She needed space to breathe, alone time to figure out exactly who she was, and a place she could call hers. She still visited her feudal friends, but her duty was done and they were moving on. As much as Kagome craved it, the time for adventures was over.
Kagome wanted many things; love, affection, a family of her own, but she had no man to give them to her, human or otherwise, and there was no man she could honestly say she wanted them from. When depression hit, Souta advised she get a pet.
A guide led Kagome through the animal shelter. Her heart ached when she saw the creatures who were trapped in cages. Her ears were assaulted by growls as countless animals gazed at her sadly from their temporary prisons.
“Were you looking for anything particular?” Her guide asked cheerily.
Kagome shook her head. “I moved here a few days ago. I really just want some company.”
“Would you like a cat or a dog?”
Kagome was about to answer when an angry howl and screaming was heard from another room.
Her senses spiked at the promise of action. Kagome ran to the door and flung it open, staring at the massive white dog that had sunk its teeth into the arm of one of the workers. Its eyes met hers, and time seemed to stop. Gold, familiar, and dangerous. With one shake of his head, he sent the man across the room and growled at her.
“Miss, you can't be in here,” the guide said frantically, pulling at her arm.
Kagome turned to her and stated, “I want him.”
