In the break room, she pulled her cell out of her locker to check for messages. Her eyes widened when she saw that Sesshoumaru had called, twice, in the last half hour. Before she could call him back, he was calling again.

“Hello, Sesshoumaru. How are you today?”

“Where are you?” Good, I am fine as well.

“Work.”

“No, you are not. I am at the lounge and there is some fellow making a racket at the piano that is not you.” Poor Jūrōmaru, must be playing requests. He’s rather good otherwise.

“That would be because I’m at my other job.”

“Other job, where?” Now she remembers one of his flaws, patience. He could have loads of it, unless he wanted something right then. She told him name of the bookstore and where it was. “When does your shift end?”

“I close tonight, so a little after nine.” Glancing at the clock, she saw that her break time was almost up.

“I would like to have dinner with you. Do you have an evening free?” He must have read the hesitance in her silence for then he said that it was just two friends getting together.

“That… would be nice.” They discussed a date and time and she gave him directions to her apartment. “See you then, bye.” She hung up the phone and wondered if she was really doing the right thing. Trusting another after what had happened. Get a grip girl; it’s been years since you were ditched at your own wedding.

Which is why she was sitting at the kitchen island at his place, sipping tea and watching him cook in a mustard yellow apron.

“Why the bookstore?” He asked as he thinly sliced the steak for their Tataki.

“Because singing isn’t as lucrative as I thought.”
