Needle Felting on a Budget

My daughter is all about chickens and eggs right now. She would love that! I am not sure I could manage it before her baby brother is born though. Just for that project what colors and how much wool did you need?

It was very little wool. Probably about 1/2 ounce total at the most. I used yellow for the hen (really, it's more of a pretty marigold color), red for the comb and wattle, white for the egg, and dark brown for the nest, beak, and eyes. You could make the hen any color you like, though. If you wanted to save money on colors, you could use white for the hen instead of the yellow since you would need white for the egg anyway.

It used so little wool that you can't tell there is any wool missing from my original batch. I could probably make fifty little toys like this one from what I bought.

Oh, and it's not a big project. You could definitely do it before your little one is born. It took me about 2 hours. I did it in one sitting right after I'd made dinner and put my daughter to bed.
