I'd say go for it if you can get a dog walker to visit a couple of times for about half an hour or so while you're at work. I'm a dog walker and I'm currently doing this for a this for a couple with a 12 week old puppy who work full time. With me visiting the puppy isn't left alone for more than 2 or 3 hours, and his housetraining is going really well.
In my experience, 2 dogs that get along well are not any more work than 1. 3 makes a pack, and then there are pack dynamics to be dealt with, and its more work. This is why I only have 2. Your mileage may vary. Best of luck. They are terrifically cute.
That's exactly what I'm worried about, that I'm getting a pup just for the act that it's a pup.
I've told Jess that I'll meet them on Wednesday and see whether I bond with one particular one. If I can't choose then I know that I'm just going "OMG, fuzzy puppy cuteness" rather than making a rational decision. However, if I meet them and one stands out to me and seems to be "my" dog from the start, as Sparky was when I met him, then I may ed up with a new puppy.
I'm pretty sure that I want one now. I've been messaging a girl I "know" (as in, I know her online but not in RL) with 2 BCs and a full-time job and explained my situation to her a lot more fully than I have here. She thinks that as long as I'm prepared to put the work in I'll be just fine and I trust her decision.
Plus, Jess obviously thinks I can do it because I know she's looing for 5* homes for these pups and has turned several people away for not being up to her standards.
I'm one who has absolutely NO interest in the kind of work that goes into having a puppy, so for me it would be a no-brainer. :^P I can resist almost any cute face when I think back to the night when I had 4 rottie-mix pups in my house for one night until the shelter opened in the morning - nope! Not until I have kids who are old enough to truly help out in taking care of the puppy (as in, jr high-age minimum).
That said, I don't think that two dogs are much, if any, more work than one (outside the puppy issue) - but they ARE twice as expensive. Twice the vet bills, twice the food, twice the boarding fees. So be sure you can afford to double what you spend right now.
I've just got a new job that means I'm getting paid almost double what I was! So with nothing else extra to spend it on it'll be fine. I've already thought of that and decided it wasn't an issue, so didn't mention it.
