let me get this straight... he did not have his dog leashed... you did... he charged you??? That is a load of BS.

What I meant was that he his charged AT us, as in, came running wildly towards us. Sorry! :P

The food thing makes sense - although at this time of year anything that's super yummy (and consequently not dry kibble type stuff) would probably freeze if taken outside long enough. And it's hard to see the other dog before she does if it's far away, but it's something I'll have to be super vigilant about.

I'm super glad she's mostly ok too. If I end up having to take her in to the vets over it, I think I will have to ask them to foot the bill though. It's really not fair for me to pay for that when he didn't have control over his dog.

Find a place where you can her exercise without dogs present for the next week or two. Which I know is easier said than done ( ... )

This. First and foremost, give her time to calm down and get past this experience. It's the most important step to reconditioning your dog to other dogs, in my opinion.

Good luck with your dog. These situations always suck.

ooh i totally hear you, and wish you the best of luck! i had a similar experience with my little pugapoo and a huge, unleashed dog. unfortunately, my baby lost his eye as a result of the attack :(
it's been slowgoing as he still gets freaked if a dog comes up fast on us, especially on his blind side, but the members here had some wonderful advice. if you look through the tags of fear aggression and leash aggression there are some other good tips, also.

others here are better at advice giving, but i definitely agree with treat distraction before the fear takes hold. give lots of praise and associate seeing dogs with happy things.

again, much much luck to you and your bebe.

My border collie was attacked by a golden retriever when we first got him (he was 2) and while we don't know his socialization with other dogs before we got him...he was never okay with dogs. A few years later I was coming home from school and he was in the front yard to greet me when the neighbor dog jumped the fence, ran over, and bit him for no reason.

He hated other dogs unless if they were smaller than him after that and that lasted through his life...he was afraid. So I hope all goes well with you, it's very difficult to get a dog who's scared of others back to normal...we never did.

Good luck!
