Must go buy!

Thanks for letting us know about her. I swear, it seems like so many fan fiction authors are becoming 'real' authors.

Rise Again is such a good book, I do hope you buy it!

I find it fascinating that so many fanfic writers have turned professional. I think it goes to show - to those that naysay or demean fanfic writing - that it really does help. It shaped my writing style, gave me tons of good practice, helped me find my voice. Some snobs hear that you used to be a fanfic writer and they think they know whether you are any good or not based on that - but I think that attitude is changing now that so many of us are breaking into the world of published authors. And it helps to have places like Amazon that offer self-publishing. That is how LJ Hamlin got started. She did the self-publishing thing until a publisher read her stuff on Amazon and offered her a contract. (I'm just glad she's writing stuff I can read - her fandom days where in Bandom and I never knew any of the people in her stories, lol!)

Lois McMaster Bujold used to be a fanfic author too! Way back in the days of the original Star Trek. She wrote and contributed to those fan-zines. I think the last ST fanfic she was supposedly writing was a romance between a Klingon man and a woman officer of the Federation. (Sounds familiar, if you are acquainted with her books.)
