So, during a discussion with someone else, it came up that I both watch "Supernatural" and enjoy Supernatural Fandom with my RL best friend. It has happened a few times that I got shocked reactions from my Fandom-Peeps that I would share my secret fandom-ness with a RL person - namely The BFF

Before Supernatural, it was Buffy. I think it was halfway through the first season when I finally caved in to a coworker's urging and made the point of watching it. I don't remember what episode it was, but I remember literally falling off my couch laughing and that was it for me. Loved loved loved. Not all seasons equally, (season 6 really sucked, with the exception of "Once More with Feeling," of course) but it still remains one of my favorite shows. Other big favorites: Firefly, West Wing, and the early years of Smallville.

Jensen is an excellent reason to start watching any show! I saw him on Days of Our Lives years ago and then nothing until Supernatural - and then I went back and watched Dark Alec, er Dark Angel, and Smallville. (and Dawson's Creek, shut up! lol)
I never got into Smallville, though I watched all of Jensen's episodes and all of James Marsters' episodes - but I have issues with Superman as a character. Though I love Rosenbaum's portrayal of Lex Luthor. And high school teen dramas with evil villains are always fun, so I suspect if I actually watched it, I would enjoy it.
Oh Hell Yes to the Firefly. I didn't discover it until after it had already been canceled. What a bunch of bullshit that was ( ... )

But if I miss anything when it airs, I can now watch it online whenever. And on that note, I think computer technology has ruined family tv nights! But that's so not what you were talking about....

I just love them all, I mean ALL, so much! (But the Big Damn Movie makes me sad, not because it wasn't great, but because... Wash! And Book! *sniffles*)

Supernatural. And believe me that nothing ever hit me as strong as this show. Might be because I was really, really down when I discovered it.
March 2008, I was very late to the party, but that's me for you. I was freaking out with college and the last exams and final papers, exhausted, with a few panic attacks in front and behind me. I desperately needed something to cheer me up, because back then, I really had nothing.
But how did I actually get there? It's kinda blurry, honestly. I remember me and a friend of mine (a boy) used to watch some show on Sunday night (now I even can't remember what it was), but because the TV shows here always start much later than they're supposed to, we were on the phone together, chatting with the TV mute, waiting. And before that, there was this show with two really hot, pretty guys (no idea about the plot) and he asked me who I think is prettier (I believe it was Playthings), I'm fairly sure I said Dean (the blonde, shorter one), even back then ( ... )

But your description of the stress and shit in your life when you discovered it, feels like how I felt when I threw myself into it earlier this year. SPN helped ward off more than one panic attack on my part. And people say that acting is a shallow job with no meaning.
Pft.
I love that you were watching SPN on mute and that was enough to drag you into it!!!! I wonder what you were waiting to watch when you discovered it. Was it a CW show? SPN was originally paired with Gilmore Girls, I think, and then it was paired with Smallville (it's so nice they are back together again even if it means they moved the "Angel of Thursday" from, you know, Thursday.)
You know, I have never watched a single episode of Supernatural during an original viewing by myself. Ever. Now I kind of want too, just for the experience. :)

Nope, it wasn't a CW show. Our TV stations have totally different shedule. SPN runs on Friday, around 10pm. It's kinda hilarious too, because two weeks ago they finished S4 and because they still don't have rights for S5 and no more rights for S1 and S2, they run S3 again.
But when you mentioned SV - which I don't watch (only a few episodes because of Jensen) - its airing time is around 2pm. These shows are very underestimated here, they just fill the time between the stupid (stupid, irritating, with their endless, annoying promos) Czech soap operas that run at 8pm.
I've no idea what show it was. Which only shows how insignificant it was compared to SPN, btw. I'll have to ask my friend.
eta: Now I'm almost sure that the show was Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction. Do you know it?

Yes! I remember that show - I can't recall who I knew who was obsessed with that, but we would sit around and try to guess if we thought it was real or not.

As for me, I think you can guess, but... Supernatural! All the way! :P
I actually started watching it because of Buffy. I bought a Buffy magazine a few years back, noted that Amber Benson was going to be in an episode of something called Supernatural about two brothers, and thought "huh, I should check that out". And then a year later I did. I was hooked from the first episode. The rest is history.
(Well, except for the part where I saw the Dean/Cas chemistry and went searching the internets and found LJ and went totally insane with fandomness (totally a word) and started writing slash and found awesome friends and discovered Misha Collins and... yeah. You get the point.)

I always forget that Amber Benson was in SPN! Cuz I hadn't seen Tara on Buffy yet when I saw "bloodlust" ep of SPN. I hadn't seen past season three of Buffy until just this last year. I'm all caught up now though.
Oh my - so SPN is your first fandom? And it's totally Dean/Cas' fault? And Misha Collins is totally to blame? Awwwww. Meeeeeeeeesha!
I know, can you remember your life before Fandom? I can't believe I was away from the awesome-ness that is Fandom for so long. - (After Lord of the Rings and The West Wing kind of fell off and I got really sick, there was no fandom-ness in my life for like five years. /gasp/ It was awful.) How did we survive our lives before all of this?

Yup, it's my first fandom. If I'd watched Buffy while it was actually airing, I might have ended up slashing some Spike/Xander, who knows? But as it is, Dean/Cas and Misha is totally to blame. :P
Nope, I have no idea what I did with my time before fandom. And how I lived without manageing to finish any of the things I wrote. I have fandom to thank for finally finishing fics! And starting to write gay porn...
*smishes fandom* I love fandom, and I want it to last forever and ever! (I know it won't, but still!)
