How Did You Get Started Watching "Your Show"?

Oct 05, 2010 22:41

So, during a discussion with someone else, it came up that I both watch "Supernatural" and enjoy Supernatural Fandom with my RL best friend. It has happened a few times that I got shocked reactions from my Fandom-Peeps that I would share my secret fandom-ness with a RL person - namely The BFF ( Read more... )

I think I started when Cas appeared in the 4th season of Supernatural... and then I discovered a high school friend had all the seasons on DVD... then I became really obsessed and now I think that's all that I kinda talk about with my other friend who got addicted too.

I'm a little behind on comments, but...

You are not the first person who has said it is all Castiel/Misha's fault that they started watching Supernatural. It is awesome that you have so many people in your RL who watch it too though. I can't stand to have to talk to "normal" people about "regular" things, so I try to get as many people as I can to watch it, so I can just talk about SPN all the time. I even got a bunch of people who work at my physical therapy place to watch it, so I could talk to them about SPN, instead of making polite chit-chat about the weather while I work out, lol.

Are you the reason your other friend got addicted to SPN?

LOL No, my friend got addicted on her own once she realized 2 people liked Supernatural and probably has watched more of the series than me now! I think the only thing that might scare people away from the series is the horror aspect and jumping in at a WTF moment... And good job on getting your physical therapy people addicted! :)

Actually one of the people at physical therapy returned our Season One DVDs and said she actually couldn't watch it all because she got too scared. She was an old school Jensen Ackles fan from Days of Our Lives era too, so she must have been really scared and creeped out by SPN to not watch Jensen, lol.

That made me laugh, I got into Supernatural because I was reading Dark Angel Fanfic which lead to a super Jensen Ackles obession (S2), I actually read the first half of the episodes for season one. I was reading fanfic before I saw the show. It was a slippery slope. I had way too much time on my hands, so I started reading Wincest and then J2, which in any other fandom I found sooooo wrong. nearly six years later I still love my boys! All four of them.

I'm catching up on comments from when I was in Chicago...

Thanks!

DARK ALEC! The name of that show is Dark Alec! Get it right. Ha! Sorry.

So, you were reading Dark Alec fan-fic before you were watching the show? How does one decide to randomly pick a fandom and start reading fic before they watch the show? Is that what you are telling me happened? Had you seen Jensen on anything else before? Wow - you are the first person who has pointed at Dark Alec as the reason for your SPN-watching. Yeah...Jensen will do that to you. ;)

I'm kind of sad that I missed out on those early days of SPN fandom.

It's so weird to me how RPS was such an immediate part of the SPN fandom - even LotR, which had a huge RPS-fanbase, took some time to get off the ground in regards to the RPS. Jared & Jensen just made it too easy. lol

EDIT: because I apparently don't know how to type.

That is an awesome story! I actually don't have a show I feel that strong about. Not since the X-Files back in the days of the yahoo groups. As soon as the credits would roll I'd be online dissecting the show. Which lead to fanfic, which lead to slash, which lead to lj and here I am. Now, the boy and I watch The Mentalist, NCIS:LA, Leverage, and White Collar together and he doesn't mock me too badly for my fanish glee.

Oh, yes Firefly, I miss you. Worst decision by a network ever.

Still behind on comments from vacation...

Thanks!

Oh - but maybe Supernatural can be your new Show!!!!

My sister started in the X-Files fandom too! She was in college and she was right there dissecting the show and reading every piece of fic she could get her hands on. She never wrote in that fandom though.

I didn't have the internet (or my own computer) until 2000, so for me, that post-episode dissecting came with The West Wing.

NCIS: LA - God, I have to catch up on my episodes from this season.

Yes - Firefly, I love that show so fricking much. That's a show that could have lasted a long time, with the way each episode was set-up, it had limitless possibilities. Fox should burn for that decision. <--clearly I feel strongly about this.

That's okay, my brain and I and the internet haven't been on speaking terms, so, yeah.

Supernatural may be my Show. Watching the first season now and all I can say is holy crap.

Oh, the pretty with NCIS: LA, it is amazing. And with the new guy Deeks, my brain goes to crossover land with Fastlane which was also all about the pretty.

If you are going to get sucked into SPN being your Show - first season is the one to do it. I always loved the Monsters of the Week the best and they had some really good episodes, plus they didn't hit us over the head with the mythology too much, just enough...and they gave us the right amount of boy angst. Plus, little bits of John Winchester, so...

Season Two is pretty damn good too though. For as much as Castiel is my favorite character and he didn't come in until Season Four - Seasons 1 & 2 will still always be my favs.

I am so behind on NCIS: LA that I don't know who Deeks is (I don't think I do anyway.) I missed the finale last year, so I didn't know what had happened with Dom - but now I have the finale downloaded from the internets, so as soon as I watch that, I can start going through this season on my DVR. I figure next week (now that I'm all caught up on Nikita).
