Thank You, Jon. Thank You.

It has come to an end. My sister and I just finished watching Jon Stewart's final episode of The Daily Show. I am just going to lay here and be sad for awhile. When all the correspondents came out on stage to hug him, I lost my shit. OMG, so many old faces too, like Wyatt Cenac, Ed Helms, Mo Rocca, Steve Carell and the Corddry brothers. And ( Read more... )

He was wonderful and will be sorely missed. I wonder if he'll be happy on a farm and if he will miss his TV show. Time will tell, I guess.

I hear he's been running around doing comedy charity things and also that he will have a youtube channel now or something, so I'm guessing the farm life is proving just maybe a little too quiet for him, lol! We've been watching The Nightly Show now, instead of The Daily Show and I really like it quite a lot, but it'll never be Jon or TDS.

I've seen Trevor Noah a few times on YouTube and I think he's pretty good. But as you said, he'll never be Jon Stewart. Those are mighty big shoes to fill.

It's the end of an era for sure, and likely the end to a voice that's the conscience of America in a lot of ways, too.

I'm getting all choked up answering these comments about The Daily Show! It does feel like the end to an era, like the man who led us to a more socially conscious world is gone (even though he's just in New Jersey, but same difference!). Like I finally have to admit that I am all grown up and leave the nest and fly with the tools Jon gave me. We've been watching The Nightly Show and Larry Wilmore does a great job highlighting injustice and absurdity in the world - though a lot less politicians and more social justice type stuff - and I feel like he can be the voice of a new generation, especially for young black folk out there, but for me, he'll never be Jon. (though I do love Nightly Show, the roundtable debates are a great format.)

That sounds cool - I will have to try his show out, and then maybe recommend it to my students. :)

Def your students should watch The Nightly Show! The debate forum is great and reminds me a lot of my high school government class where we had to research modern issues in politics or the social sphere and then do a mini presentation on them in class - like 2 minutes - and then we'd all have a big discussion/debate about the issue. It was suppose to be that every Thursday like five different kids had to bring in subjects, but we'd get so into it that we never made it through more than two debates before class ended!

That was a fantastic, bittersweet finale. My brother lives among the cornfields of New Jersey... I wonder if they'll end up neighbors?

The Daily Show gave Jon the perfect send off. That I was in tears is only a testament to the fact that they did it right. I'm still sad about his leaving though, even after all these months!

Listen, if your brother ends up neighbors with Jon Stewart, you let me know. You and I will go on a nice summer holiday to visit your brother - family is so important after all. Nevermind these binoculars I have in my bag, no no. ;)

Oh Dodger, I so totally agree. My daughters both grew up with Jon Stewart and it hit them really hard. I'm going to go into withdrawal I think. I mean for so long now when something happened in the political realm I looked forward to what Jon would say about it. He helped point out the hypocrisy, lies, and craziness that forms politics today and helped us bear it better. I feel like I needed him to get through this next election. I understand why he did it - his kids are pretty young after all and I'm sure he didn't want to miss any more of their growing up -- and, like you, I'm sure he'll come back in some manner. But it won't be the same without him.

So Sis and I have been watching The Nightly Show since about September. And I really like it! They do this roundtable debate segment in every episode with their guests and I like the discussion aspect. Everyone is generally funny but also very opinionated and varying opinions at that and I like watching that. Larry does less politicians and more social justice type stuff than Jon did and I like that, just because it's different. I am trying now to be more involved in social issues that don't necessarily touch my life - (or hell some that do, see my disability blog) - so Nightly Show is a good show for me to learn from ( ... )

Funny you should mention that. Jon Stewart was on the Daily Show today talking about the first responders on 9/11. It's beyond shameful that Republicans have been playing politics with them.
My daughter was just sitting next to me saying how much she missed Jon. I do like Trevor Noah though and yes I enjoy the Nightly Show also. Watch it frequently. I'm glad these shows are on to balance out all the crazy on the news.

I am sure Trevor Noah is great - Jon hand picked him after all - but it makes me too sad to see someone else behind the desk. :(

LOL, you sent me this comment last night and then I woke up today with a video link email from my sister of the interview. (part of it anyways). He tried to get his previous panel back together of first responders and two were too sick to come and one is dead? That's terrible! And yet politicians still use this bill as a bargaining tool! The hell, Congress?! (I wish I'd known he was gonna be on, I would have watched it!)
