Agreed. I was only familiar with David Tennant as creepy/angst-ridden characters before Who--and frankly dreaded him taking on the role more than I shrank from Micheal Gambon taking over for bonny Richard Harris in Harry Potter. I never saw Tennant as leading man as much as a scene stealing character actor. (I didn't see Casanova.) I made an effort to see Matt's earlier work, so he was definitely a leading (Independent film) actor in the making. Peter Davison--I knew him from All Creatures Great And Small-my kids watched it on CBC and PBS. So not a leading man yet, but certainly an attractive and familiar face. He was at that time the youngest Doctor ever.
That's not what this person is saying -- they're saying that two of the announced guests that don't appear to have ties to Doctor Who have costarred with this other actor, Daniel Ryan (who hasn't been announced as a guest).
Oh, I understood that. What I meant was that I hoped that the BBC (or Moffat) wouldn't leave a clue, such as is being suggested or inferred. Anyway, that's what the forum is all about, so I think it is worthy speculation (but I still hope it's wrong).
Liza Tarbuck did voices for the Infinite Quest animated adventure and has done at least one Big Finish. She's a huge fan.
Also, look at the conversations Daniel Ryan has been having with casting director Andy Pryor on Twitter. He would be a complete moron to do that had he been cast. https://twitter.com/_DanielRyan
I remember her beig In Plague of the Daleks but I thought that had more to do with her experience in voicework (teach me not to listen to the interviews).
Hadn't see the twiter convo with Andy Pryor. Does rather pour water on it (unless it's some strange doublebluff).
So they probably are just bringing in loads of fans then. I wonder if they're just going to be having a general chat about Doctor Who for 30 minutes...
That would be my guess, yes. The old Doctors will offer "advice" and anecdotes, the fans will have a chat about why they love the show and what makes a good Doctor, they'll show some clips and share memories of being behind the sofa and then announce the new fella and do a little interview.
Personally, I would like to see a POC in the role and would love to see a South Asian doctor awkwardly commenting on his 5th Doctor costume. But yeah, doubtful Who would be that self-reflective.
And yeah, I am totally sick of the young, attractive white guy. If they are going to do that at least make him a ginger or if he is not from England (Scotland, Wales, etc.) let him speak in his accent.
