It's totally true that the Doctor's relationship with Sarah and Harry is the prototype for that with Rose and Mickey, and doyle_sb4 pointed out that you could basically do Girl in the Fireplace with the former.
I've just watched a couple of stories with Turlough for the first time and I don't think Five really terrorises him the same way. He does terrorise the Brigadier terribly but, although I think they do both have feelings for Jo, that's a more complex relationship because the Doctor does need the Brigadier. I don't think there's anyone else he's dependent on, though I'm open to suggestions. Ian does come to mind, One winds him up something rotten, but I'm not sure that One has the same relationship with Barbara, it's not the era I'm most familiar with. It doesn't apply to Jamie, nor are Zoe and Victoria gender-swapped gooseberries. It doesn't apply to Ben and Polly, not with Two anyway. I don't know if it applies with Vicki and Steven.
One was never too keen on either of them. I've only seen the six or so episodes, but from that I gather he wasn't too happy with either presence. In one episode, Barbara gets lost and One's reaction is, "Well, it's dark. Let's head back." Ian disagrees, saying they should look for Barbara, and One's like, "Okay, well, have fun with that." Susan is the one who drags him along.
i've been saying the harry/mickey thing for a while now (ever since i went back to watch some of the old episodes). i would love harry & mickey to meet & the doctor to be like "mickey the idiot, meet harry the imbecile."
It baffles me, and I just can’t understand it. If the Doctor is not like this with all of his male companions, then what is it about Mickey and Harry that raised this animosity in him? Their personalities are nothing alike
But Four and Ten are quite alike in some ways. The Doctor's personality changes a bit with each regeneration, so it's not too surprising that Five could be very different from Four.
Actually, NuWho hooked me in the teaser of School Reunion when Ten was talking to the students. My eyes got wide and I turned to my partner and I say, "OMG, he's frackin' channelling Tom Baker! He's THE DOCTOR!" After that, I was lost.
