Not as in, like, do I have money, obviously I do or I wouldn't be willing to risk a possible several months stuffing about with only my savings and any freelance income that I most definitely cannot ( Read more... )

I think any bank would be able to assist you with fulfilling or getting around those specifications if you have non-citizen status. There may be a special process for people in your situation; it's certainly something to inquire about. I'm sure there's a way to do this relatively painlessly, lol. :)

Either way, I bet you'll do great over there! You will be there a nice long time, and very successfully! <3

So far my research suggests that some banks are really particular about you having proof of address before you can open an account, but at least two of them apparently will let newcomers to the UK open an account with just their passport and visa, so FINGERS CROSSED THIS IS TRUE. Regardless, apparently I shouldn't need to pay my deposit by cheque anyway so it shouldn't be an impediment to renting. This is all really flipping scary, though - I'm just feeling a lot of, if not closed doors, than doors with a really scary bouncer standing outside and a very exclusive guest list. And I'm so short that they don't even notice I'm queueing, let alone HOW AWESOME I AM.

Ooh, I wouldn't say no to a little discount ;) I'm just glad it sounds like it'll be less hassle than I was afraid it would be! *is still nervous about like everything*

I think banks might be a little nervous about a Lack-Of-Address buuuut, would they accept a non-UK address? And also, if you get a BoA card, ATM withdrawals don't come with the pesky currency exchange fee other cards typically have and most people won't say no to cash.
