I had second thoughts about starting off the post with something so in-your-face and controversial BUT I NEEDED TO STAKE OUT MY TERRITORY AND DEFEND MY BB.

YES, THANK YOU. It makes me sad in my heart when I see non-stop ragging on Tegan. It makes me wonder if there's something wrong with me because she's my favorite old school companion and one of my Top Five faves AND I run her fanlisting.

I liked Tegan. She could be a pill, but she was feisty and didn't take any crap from anyone. Not even the Master -- she told him off whenever she was given the opportunity.

I want to check out old who but I don't know where to start. Does someone want to help? Links or places to look for episodes might be helpful.

Also, are any of the books good? There are Doctor Who novels right? I've kind of been curious but IDK how they fit in with everything. @__@

Might be tricky to get hold of them by now, but in terms of books my gateway drug was the Target novelizations of the Classic Series episodes. Their quality is *very* uneven, but imo they're still worth exploring, since the authors of the later tie-in novellas (and there are MANY) will have grown up reading them.

And quite a few of those who grew up reading those books now write for Who, RTD and Gattiss among them.

I know youtube has some clips from Two. I remember watching the first 10 minutes of 'Tomb of the Cybermen' back in March, and there were other parts from the same serial posted. :D

I love him in the audios and even in the original broadcasts too!

I kind of adore Timelash. What? It is pure crack!.

Also, he had a companion who was a shapeshifting Penguin. YOU CAN'T BEAT THAT :D

Six and Colin Baker were done such a disservice during their TV runs that it's not even funny.

The tragedy is that Six's best lines come at the end of his tenure, when he basically calls the Time Lords out on their bullshit:

"In all my travelling throughout the universe, I have battled against evil, against power-mad conspirators. I should have stayed here! The oldest civilization - decadent, degenerate, and rotten to the core. Power-mad conspirators, Daleks, Sontarans, Cybermen? They're still in the nursery compared to us! Ten million years of absolute power ... that's what it takes to be really corrupt."

It was the best definition of the Doctor's relationship to his own people that I've ever seen.

That is pretty good.

I can imagine Ten saying that.

I have yet to see the Ultimate Foe (maybe I'll put that on tonight; I have the DVD somewhere). I really enjoy Six in the audios where he's gotten some better scripts. LOVED "The Year of the Pig" (yes, I'm strange like that). And the ones where Six goes up against Davros are pretty darn cool ("Davros" and the one with Mel, "the Juggernauts").
