Arthur Darvill set to play the Devil

Arthur Darvill will play Mephistopheles in The Globe's upcoming production of Christopher Marlowe’s Doctor Faustus from 18 June.

Sez the Daily Mail:

"Rory Williams - the bloke Arthur Darvill plays in Dr Who - is such a nice man that the actor wanted to find a part for his next role that was the total opposite. Someone with a devilish personality.

Well, now that I'm no longer freaking out and jumping to conclusions--in all fairness--it might not mean anything. With the way the series is split now, they didn't start filming until late September last year, so this could still easily just be an extracurricular project.

Though, to be honest, I'll be shocked if Arthur and Karen stay on past this Christmas Special this year, if they don't leave at the end of the series.

Yeah, it's always weird when I stop to think, "No, two seasons is actually a reasonably average run for a companion," because especially when I look back at the original series, it always seemed like they stuck around much longer, even though they didn't really.

I was thinking the same. Really I think they were sort of on their way out as it is (hense why they weren't even in the TARDIS at the beginning of the latest series). They're clearly just sticking out the current adventure and then they'll be off to pastures new.

Sad, but it's always exciting to see who comes next :D

Well, that's one way to avoid being typecast! If I'm recalling my secondary school reading correctly then there's some rather nice lines for Mephestophilies and... you know, in a funny way I can see this working.

I got excited when I saw this post title in my inbox, and then disappointed when I realized it was stage and not screen so I won't see it.
And then sadder when I read the rest of your post. Baww. Everything sad.

I don't know if I should try to calm myself and say "This doesn't mean he's leaving" or if I should start getting used to the idea of not having Rory on the show, because 2 seasons is the most any companion has stayed in new who. I think I'm going to go with denial, I don't want to think about Rory leaving the TARDIS, too sad :(
