Touchy-feely; or, musings on Eleven and companion-love

Sep 20, 2010 16:47

This post arises after reading the following statement on a certain mesage board that shall remain nameless (and I know, I probably shouldn't be wasting my time on those things, but I'm stuck inside with an ear infection, and bored.)

'Matt Smith has as much Charisma as a garden slug. .... and he has no chemistry with anyone whatsoever.'

And it was ( Read more... )

You've nailed all of them perfectly. I admit, I'm a bit of a sucker for how Nine distanced himself from people, but it was just a fantastic character trait that all around shaped him into an incredible individual. Ten as well, though the physical contact seemed to be completely opposite of Nine; he couldn't stop touching people. I don't know if it's just my personal thing with being over-touchy-feely, but that kind of put me off the tiniest bit, I dunno ( ... )

Amen to pretty much the whole post. Forehead-kisses and fingertip farewells are more profound, to me, than the more demonstrative stuff.

It frequently baffles me when people claim particular actors have no chemistry with others...

With regard to Ten, to *me* (and I am expressing this as an entirely personal view which you are free to disagree with - but I would appreciate you not attacking me for expressing it) it's very important that the only woman Ten *ever* kisses voluntarily is Martha Jones. Every other woman with whom he shares a kiss makes a move on him (he does kiss Astrid's "ghost" - but only after she's first kissed him). Those who attack Martha for daring to fall in love with Ten make me furious - how else was she going to react when this very charismatic and (to many) sexy man kissed her. And it wasn't just a quick peck, it was a full-on snog - heck, he even shifts the position of his hands to make himself more comfortable as he kisses Martha.

Yes, he says that it's nothing - but I have to ask, if it was nothing why does it last so long? And also, if he just wanted to confuse the Judoon, why did he not give her some of his DNA in some other manner?

Knowing Ten and his, er, 'oral fixation', I was surprised he didn't just lick her.

Playing devil's advocate, reading a script direction that says "bump foreheads with Amy" is different to Matt's actually having chemistry with Karen Gillan.

Having said that, the statement that he is uncharismatic and has no chemistry with anyone is total bollocks. I adore Nine and Ten, but I adore Eleven, too, because Matt made the role his own without sacrificing "general chemistry" or the inherent adorability of the character.
