Variety has a rather more positive review of the film 'Womb', which got a bit of a bum rap from some people at the recent Locarno Film Festival:

Slightly spoilery review )

Am I blind re: what he said about Gaiman? I heard (probably from you) it was like, two words but I don't see it.

Well, "Womb" sounds rather nasty but I'll admit the concept is. . . interesting. Freudian approved. Lol.

Good to hear a little bit more about the Christmas Special. Sounds like we'll be having a proper Dickensian Doctor Who. ; )

Have to echo "nasty but interesting" -- I really can't wait to see it, it sounds awful in the most gut-wrenchingly wonderful way, but very daring in a way that so few things are.

Edited... because I suck. ._.

Thirding this--it sounds like a movie that would never see the light of day over here in the States (and probably still won't), and the trailer made it look beautiful, so... I'm in.

Doctor Who is about to get IN YOUR GRILL!

Ummm...ok... (pssst! What does this mean?!)

I'm still not sure about Womb, but I think I'm intrigued enough (in a morbidly curious way...) to check it out. Or perhaps I'll wait and see what you all make of it first.

I'm so ridiculously excited for the Gaiman Who script! I thought, "What could Matt possibly say in two words to make me even more excited?" Well, my cup runneth over... And I only have, what, like a year to wait?! *sigh*

Dude. There's a possibility that Adam Smith (he who brought us The Eleventh Hour and the Weeping Angels two-parter) will be directing the Gaiman episode. Talk about cups runnething over--and I've never even read any of Gaiman's stuff!

I ♥ Adam Smith so much. Goddamn this will be beautiful.
I was worried when we found out that Moff wasn't using any of the old directors in S5 but then Adam Smith was SO FUCKING GOOD, OMG.

Womb sounds fascinating. And very creepy. I have a small problem with the review, though...

the strapping young man is killed in a car accident.

According to the Oxford English Dictionary, "strapping" means "Strongly and stoutly built, robust, sturdy."

No way in hell is Matt strapping. Lithe? Yes. Also slender, wiry, lean, skinny, kinetic, agile, athletic, slim, spry, energetic, etc.

But not bloody STRAPPING. WTF. That word does not mean what you think it means, reviewer dude!

Yeah, I thought that was a weird choice of words. Besides not being particularly applicable, it's kind of an awkward thing to call someone....

Really? "Strapping young man" is common enough, in my experience. Though it's usually used for young men who are actually strapping. Possibly the reviewer knew the phrase but not the particular meaning of the word and just... tossed it whole into the sentence without bothering to fact check

*by "common enough" I mean that Americans of my parents' generation use it. My mom throws it around if she wants to make me blush, i.e. "I've found a strapping young man for you! ;D"
