Idly meandering through the untold zillions of images on the Ether, I saw a portrait of dear old Frankie as done by James Bama. And my poor old tired brain cells sparked and remenmbered a similar image.. but painted by Basil Gogos.
And of course I had those Aurora monster model kits as a preteen. Hot summer afternoons in my attic room trying to assemble the kits as the paint and ..the glue.. fumes...whoaaaa.
Anyway, I think I actually prefer Gogos this time, which surprises me. He gives the Monster more personality and more of a sense of being lifelike. Bama's Frankie is more static and iconic.
It's funny how that one photo of Karloff in any early test make-up keeps popping up in art. What looks like a spike under the skin of that ledge of a forehead. There it is in Bama's version for some reason.

Strange came honestly by his seamed face, being in zillions of B-westerns from the thirties onward, after ranching and even being part of a c/w group. I adored him as Sam on Gunsmoke.
