Bama Gogos (sounds Spanish, doesn't it?)

Jul 19, 2011 16:44

Idly meandering through the untold zillions of images on the Ether, I saw a portrait of dear old Frankie as done by James Bama. And my poor old tired brain cells sparked and remenmbered a similar image.. but painted by Basil Gogos.

So here they are, a chance to study how great illustrators of recent years handled the same subject, Glenn Strange as the Frankenstein Monster. Both men did stacks and stacks of fine work in different genres. But to us here, Gogos will be best remember as the artist for those early issues of FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND and Bama for his covers for the Bantam Doc Savage reprints.

I must say, Strange was a weathered chap. Spent a lot of time outdoors, I guess.
