Maybe Namor swiped the torch from the Statue of Liberty during one of his trips to New York. It would be a pretty neat trophy for the throne room. Illumination provded by electric eels.

It's a thought. I think he did smash the Statue of Liberty around 1939 or 1940.

Maybe this torch is just colored cellophane waving in the water currents?

This is underwater?? It's a thermal vent!! Like what they got in the Pacific, on Europa, Ceres, and Enceladus.
Heck, that's as good as I can come up with. I remember a time when that explanation would've won me a coveted No-Prize!
But I'm not gonna hold my breath (snort) waiting for any credit around here.

Little was known of Chemosynthetic ecosystems near thermal vents in the early 1960s. Maybe Kirby was watching early National Geographic specials.

Maybe Namor swung by the office and showed Stan and Jack polaroids of the rumpus room.

It was a geothermic vent, allright. But I hoped Namor didn't swing by the office when Vic was there.
There was some heavy karma between those two dudes.

I love the geothermal vent explanation! Very cool. And just the sort of thing Kirby would throw in without explanation.

As I recall, the No-Prize was an empty envelope you received in the mail. That Stan, what a card.
