I Am Hallucinating Atrocities

I obviously have a fever of at least 103º. I haven't checked it, nor do I feel particularly hot, but a high fever would seem to be the only explanation for my hallucination that I just read this article in the Times-Picayune:

SURVIVOR: Chalmette

I know I can't really be reading about how Chalmette has allowed actors "colonists" to move into an ( Read more... )

Must be the fever talking... sheilamarie July 27 2010, 22:57:21 UTC
That article is just, badly written or something. Over sensationalized. My family and a bunch of friends still live in the area and none were remotely bothered by the filming. They did see stacked shipping containers around the building, but other than that, they saw nothing from it. Honestly, the money that was brought into the community by this (estimated around 5 million including hiring local people to work on the filming and such ( ... )

Thanks. The article upset me (probably you noticed), but it's good to hear a different perspective from a St. Bernard native. I'll give this some thought.

That's why I had to pipe up about it. I actually don't blame YOU for your reaction, that article ticked me off for an entirely different reason. Almost seems like the writer is jealous that St. Bernard got the pay day and attention instead of the city or something. It seems like the intention was to get people to dislike the show and not watch it.

Also, my editing skills suck. "is a good thing." should have gone at the end of the first paragraph instead of the one I attached it to. Typing WAY to fast for my own good.

I tried watching the first season and gave up quickly. When I saw the ads for the second season, and started recognizing where they were filming I was ready to drop real bioweapons on the producers.

"There was some reluctance [among] the locals for us to re-create a hurricane. I think that was politically a little charged and sensitive."

You think???

Treme is to The Colony what The Wire was to K-Ville-art to the nth degree. I did watch Treme, and I understand your reasons for not watching. I relived a few moments, but in the end I'm glad I watched.

Hi, I think this is my first comment here. Anyway, I watched The Colony and beforehand had no idea where it was taking place -- I just thought the show sounded interesting. When I found out where it was located, I felt pretty uncomfortable. I'm a Louisiana native -- St. Mary Parish specifically. I'll say that I did find the show more respectful of the area and the tragedies the people there endured than I thought they would be. There were a few moments when the people were given a lot of credit for being able to survive in such a hostile and terrifying situation.

As for the.. "contestants" I guess you could call them... some were really respectful and seemed to understand that yeah, these buildings were peoples' HOMES and they showed that respect. Others seemed completely oblivious and self-centered. So, a fair balance, I'd say.
