So some years ago I ended up quitting the Tulane Hullabaloo more or less due to a profound indignity I had to suffer that was an unfortunate wakeup call to the fact that the real world is not a meritocracy. as in Mrs. Dan Genz. If you had seen what I had seen in that news room around deadline time that entire previous year you would have considered it insulting that she was made copy editor too. After all, the two of them did you and every capable writer and editor a disservice with the less than stellar copy editing that followed. I definitely felt when I was writing for you that it basically ended up being your job to copy edit your entire section. Back when Emily Dedakis was in charge no section editor had to do that.
