[The plane stopped rocking two hours ago, which made it especially easy for Mattie to doze off close to the window. Though the sky outside was dark and rain pattered lightly against the glass, it was soothing, and wide blue eyes slid shut behind orange-tinted goggles; she wouldn't remove them, not for anything.
After a while, consciousness began to

... Matt.
[A woman. RIGHT. Well, there was that Mello chick, so this didn't surprise him]

[Wait a moment. Plane to LA?] Did your version have this? [points to his scar]

[She ventured forward slowly, carefully, her hand coming up; she didn't get close enough to actually touch him, but the gesture made something in her stop twitching.] Christ. What happened?

[If the only difference from their universes was matt's gender, then Mattie was going in for a surprise and what happened in the end. And Mello could torture her right now about it. Normally he'd feel the sadistic need to make her cry, even. But no. He didn't actually feel like torturing her this time.] It doesn't matter. Different universes, remember?

[At his last words, Mattie just turned her head, turning her nose up at him.] Fine. I don't want to know what you did to be permanently scarred, anyway. [Untrue, but at least she didn't think it was obvious.]

When he went for the hidden chocolate bar, Mattie backed away quickly, her hand snapping to her back for her gun - which was gone. Fighting back a frustrated groan, she started to kneel down to grab the weapon she knew was still hidden in her boot - but stood straight once again when he came back with only chocolate. Nodding sharply, she took a deep, calming breath.

You are actually blaming a different version of the Mello you know for getting your ass on a place to come and look for him. Tell me, don't you see a flaw in that logic, brat? [Mello gave her a smug grin. He was actually mentally preparing himself, just in case she thought it'd be cute to try to slap him]

And I'm not blaming you for that. Just for being a prick. [Yeah. Find the flaw in that, dork, she thought childishly.]

[Mello shrugged] You are stating the obvious. I've no idea how your universe Mello is like, but I'm not nice.

And so what? Maybe I state the obvious for a hobby? [Mattie grimaced inwardly at herself. Smooth one, girlfriend.]

Aren't you interesting? [Sarcasm with a hint of boredom.]
