when it's needing it's careening toward being alone

[The plane stopped rocking two hours ago, which made it especially easy for Mattie to doze off close to the window. Though the sky outside was dark and rain pattered lightly against the glass, it was soothing, and wide blue eyes slid shut behind orange-tinted goggles; she wouldn't remove them, not for anything.

After a while, consciousness began to ( Read more... )

[Passing by, after finally finding that freaking Library he had been hunting for months, Mello sees someone. Red hair. Matt. However, he looked a bit different from usual. Since the blond was trying to find Matt from his own universe, Mello approached, until he finally noticed that this Matt was definitively NOT from his universe.]

... Matt.

[A woman. RIGHT. Well, there was that Mello chick, so this didn't surprise him]

I was not making a deal out about your boobs. But you cannot expect me to ignore it. Of course I pointed out. [Why was he even getting into this discussion?!] If you saw me with tits, would you simply act as if it was natural when you've never seen a female version of me in your whole li--

[Wait a moment. Plane to LA?] Did your version have this? [points to his scar]

[She'd been too shocked and annoyed by her unusual surroundings to notice the scar earlier; once he pointed it out to her, Mattie's lips parted, and she stared.] That...

[She ventured forward slowly, carefully, her hand coming up; she didn't get close enough to actually touch him, but the gesture made something in her stop twitching.] Christ. What happened?

[When she approaches, Mello moved his head immediately, not allowing her hand near him. No. No strangers touching him]

[If the only difference from their universes was matt's gender, then Mattie was going in for a surprise and what happened in the end. And Mello could torture her right now about it. Normally he'd feel the sadistic need to make her cry, even. But no. He didn't actually feel like torturing her this time.] It doesn't matter. Different universes, remember?

I wasn't gonna actually touch it! [she snapped, rather loudly; his reaction had actually offended her quite a bit. She stepped back again, growling under her breath.] You sure are a prat, like my Mello.

[At his last words, Mattie just turned her head, turning her nose up at him.] Fine. I don't want to know what you did to be permanently scarred, anyway. [Untrue, but at least she didn't think it was obvious.]

[Mello watched her for a second. Women.] If I'm that similar to your Mello, then you shouldn't be so sensitive about everything.

[Mello shrugged] Fucking brat. Do you think pouting will get what you want? [his hand reached for his pocket, to a half eaten chocolate bar, wrapped carefully. Mello unwrapped it, licking the chocolate slowly] I exploded my face while I was trying to escape Japanese Police and Kira.

They're called hormones, douchebag. [She glared at him pretty firmly.] I like to think I'm actually doing a pretty good job holding onto them right now - especially since if you were my Mello, I'd already have smacked you on your stupid scar. [Then who would be the sensitive one?

When he went for the hidden chocolate bar, Mattie backed away quickly, her hand snapping to her back for her gun - which was gone. Fighting back a frustrated groan, she started to kneel down to grab the weapon she knew was still hidden in her boot - but stood straight once again when he came back with only chocolate. Nodding sharply, she took a deep, calming breath.

Then she focused on his words, her jaw tensing in anger all over again.] And you can't call me a brat, when I dropped what I was doing to come lend my version of you a hand. [She scoffed.] Ungrateful and reckless as always, apparently.

Didn't you say you were on a plane? I doubt they'd allow you there with any kind of weapon on you. And by the way, if you dared to pull a gun on me, I'd have broken your face. Be glad you don't have a weapon. [Mello gave a bite at the candy now, looking at her.]

You are actually blaming a different version of the Mello you know for getting your ass on a place to come and look for him. Tell me, don't you see a flaw in that logic, brat? [Mello gave her a smug grin. He was actually mentally preparing himself, just in case she thought it'd be cute to try to slap him]

What on Earth makes you think I'd board the conventional way? [She had to grin a little at that; his "Matt" was obviously quite different from her.]

And I'm not blaming you for that. Just for being a prick. [Yeah. Find the flaw in that, dork, she thought childishly.]

Because when you have a mass murdered threatening the world, and after someone over America made an air-plane take a detour to the middle of the desert, it's so easy to get on a plane unnoticed, isn't it? Let's risk getting caught instead of taking the most normal and quiet route so there won't be any attention called on you, is that your motto?

[Mello shrugged] You are stating the obvious. I've no idea how your universe Mello is like, but I'm not nice.

Sheesh - what is with you? My version of you at least has more faith in my abilities as a sneak. If yours sucks so much at it, then why the hell'd you call him in the first place? Assuming you did, in fact, call him. [She crossed her arms over her chest, looking him over.]

And so what? Maybe I state the obvious for a hobby? [Mattie grimaced inwardly at herself. Smooth one, girlfriend.]

I'm not even going to bother. [This was stupid. Why should he even bother to talk to her about this, anyway? Mello never really asked how Matt arrived America, anyway. By plane, by boat, with a raft, he didn't care, as long he reached there. And he did and that's what mattered]

Aren't you interesting? [Sarcasm with a hint of boredom.]

[She rolled her eyes.] I think I've gotten all I'm gonna get out of you, buddy. [Turning, Mattie started to walk away, sashaying her hips just a bit, running her hand through her hair in mild frustration.]
