[The Mansion won't let anyone keep their secrets for long. Mikami should have remembered that. There'll always be a room that isn't the kitchen, right when you need it the least.

His body is covered in words. Covered in names, scrawled over every inch of his skin, dense and overlapping but most of them all too legible. The ink is wet. It won't ( Read more... )

[As if Mikami weren't having a bad enough day, here's his ex-god, prepared to make it just a little worse, if he can. Nothing visible happens to Light as he steps through the door - well, it isn't as if I had anywhere to be - and then he sees the pile of human misery on the floor. Covered in blurring, streaming ink, Mikami is close to unrecognisable.

Light doesn't come close: doesn't try to help. This one's none of his concern any longer, after all: cast into outer darkness. With a Mona Lisa smile, he leans back against the wall, and watches the show.]

[[OOC: The mansion takes great pleasure in negating Light's coping mechanisms, and today is no different - every time he lies, his eyes will flash red.]]

[He hears someone enter, a familiar step - even hiding from the world like this, he can tell, and he looks out through his fingers, confirming his suspicions. The smile pierces him, and there's a tiny helpless sound in the back of his throat, one he couldn't control if he tried.]

...you...

[There's no rest of the sentence, it's just an acknowledgement, all he can manage. He wouldn't dare to say stop looking at me like that.]

[The peek, and the moan, they were exactly what he wanted: a shiver of accomplishment runs through him. With rapt attention, he tilts his head a little.]

Sadly, yes.

[On the word "sadly", his irises brighten, pillar-box red. There's no way for him to tell.]

Don't worry, Teru. I'm sure the door will reappear soon, and we can go our separate ways.

[Another blink of red on that sentence: he's not sure.]

[He blinks, alarmed, letting a hand fall into his lap, where it smears more ink across his thigh. It's hard to form words.]

...your eyes.

[A had gone out to buy more pet food for Roderick and the fish. They seem to go through food so fast...

She loses all of her color, turns grey, the instant she enters the room. She can't tell, not right away...it's the price she pays for trying to see the good in everything, it all blurs together into nothing.

Well, that's not true. There are still a few things...like the cuts on her wrists, bleeding through to form faint, dripping hearts that won't go away.

She sees Light and glares, one heart shining brighter for a moment, but she ignores him the instant she sees Teru. The first heart stops glowing and fades, dull and wet, while the other glows in its place as she rushes over to see him.]

Teru...? Oh, god, Teru....are you...
[She shudders and moves to hold him, scared.]

[[ooc- A lets her emotions go uncontrolled, so she wears her heart on her sleeves. Literally.]]

A...!

[He raises his hands, blocking her, warning her away.]

Don't - don't touch me, you'll get it all over you....

Don't care, you're hurt....

[The heart appears to flash and bleed brighter, deeper. She can't tell, gently stroking Teru's hair, looking at the names with slight horror.]

...Oh, God, what did they...what...?

I'm not hurt. You're hurt, you're - you're bleeding. What did it do to you?

*As L steps into the room, he feels pressure in the center of his chest. It's a pressure that grows in intensity and expands in location, until it radiates in his arm and his neck, then turns to overwhelming pain. He is well aware of what it means. He looks down at his body in dismay; then, nauseated and short of breath, he crumples to the floor. Is it all over so soon? But I -- *

*He finds that he is not quite dead, just aching and catatonic: he can still see and hear everything that happens around him.*

[ETA: Doh, I forgot to explain this. He's failed to solve the Kira case after all, of course, and will be caught in the process of dying for as long as the room's effects last. In this case, though, he won't actually make it as far as "death."]

[This is something Light's seen before, and wanted to see again from the moment he set foot in the mansion. As he meets your eyes, a shaded smile spreads over his face, fascinated and vicious, like a child getting to kill the goose for Christmas.]

Something wrong, L?

*With effort, he drags his gaze up to Light's face; he can't yet move his head, through the pain, so it's more difficult than he would have expected.*

*He wants to knock Light's feet out from under him, but settles for a fighting glare, a hardness in his expression.*

*L will never give up.*

[It isn't that he's forgotten the crushing pain that picked him up, threw him to the ground, and then wrung him out until he stopped - it's that that knowledge makes watching this better for him. Prolonged, and drawn out, and no end in sight.

He remembers it hadn't felt like just a few seconds.]

It's good to get it out of the way, I suppose. You can consider it a dress rehearsal.

[There's an urge to repeat the whole thing - to wrap his arms around you and laugh in your face, to see if that releases you into death. He won't get so close. As he suggests that you should consider this a good thing, his eyes blink to red, and back again.]

::There's a strange sensation that over takes her as she enters the room, and it hurts. Bones shift and pull, expand, contract, and it feels as if something has reached into her mind and ripped out...something. She suddenly can't remember much of anything at all ( ... )

*L is doubled over in pain on the floor, one fist folded against his chest.*

*He tries to say her name -- questioning -- but no sound comes out; his fingers twitch in her direction.*

::seeing a movement out of the corner of her eyes, she turns and sees a man on the floor. It's obvious he's in pain and for some reason, her chest aches, as if the mere sight of him causes something inside her to twist. She grimaces, but makes her way over to him, floating a few inches above the ground, large dark wings spread out behind her::

::When she reaches him, she kneels down in front of him so they are more of less at the same height. Looking over his head, she notes that his lifespan is not by any means short, so whatever is hurting him, it seems it will not kill him. Wait, how did she know that? And the letters...why are they so familier::

You are in pain...I'm sorry. But it seems it will not kill you.
::her voice is sad, but truthful. Her gaze holds on her face, slightly confused, expression pained::
...why are you so familier?

Misa -- it is -- heart. Dying. You --

*His hand moves, again, as he tries to reach for her.*

[It just figures that the one time the mansion decides to add to Matt's memories, they're unpleasant ones. Between the first step in and the second, he changes. He doesn't look older, even though he is. He looks like someone who doesn't smile very often. His goggles are gone--they started to seem pointless, even silly, some years ago--and he's barefoot and wearing a plain black t-shirt and jeans. He has a cigarette in one hand and a paperback in the other, and takes a cursory glance around the room, without much interest.]

What now?

[From his position against the wall, Light glances towards you. Without the goggles, and with the odd clothes, he doesn't immediately recognise you - though the world-weary attitude is something he would have remembered. Not many Matts don't wear the goggles, and you aren't the one with the dyed hair, so either you're new - unlikely - or this is a change of some kind.]

Interesting, this one. It seems to be bringing out things people fear.

[There's no blink.]

[His glance at Light is not as cursory: acknowledgment of someone familiar, expected, even. The look, and his voice, are almost friendly.]

Hey, Light. It didn't do anything to me. Unless it's one of the ones that covers it tracks.

[The greeting's so far from hostile that Light blinks - not a colour change, just surprise. It's so far from anything he'd expect from a Matt. The one from the world without Kira, perhaps, with the zombies? He isn't too far from being like you.]

More likely it's one of the ones with variable effects. Most people in here - [a nod around at the other occupants] - seem more than aware of what's happened to them.
